What I Have Learned About Spray Tanning

When I first got into the business of spray tanning, I thought I needed expensive equipment, barrier creams, hundreds of clients, a permanent spray booth and more. I searched high and low for training and could find it nowhere, which meant most of my friends and family members had to wear the mistakes I made.

I started out using a quiet compressor and airbrush gun and no matter how great I was at it, there was too much overspray and I was using between 4 to 6 ounces of solution. I was also having to use barrier creams on hands, feet, fingernails and toenails because of the massive amount of solution coming out of the gun. The air compressor allowed me to spray someone in about 15 minutes, which was still a long time when someone is standing there without clothes on.
I made the switch to and HVLP system and was concerned about the amount of noise the machine makes. What I’ve found is that no one cares about the noise when the machine is providing a flawless tan in less than 4 minutes. The HVLP I use sprays a 4 inch wide pattern, so you can cover areas more quickly than before. There is also no need for barrier creams now because I am only using 2 ounces of solution per client and the solution is going exactly where I put it. I now just use a baby wipe to wipe off all area that would have had barrier cream. There’s no mess and no mistakes…ever!
The most important things I’ve learned are that you do not need expensive equipment and if you have someone train you, you too can provide a perfect flawless tan every time. I offer training to spas, individuals, salons and can teach them everything they need to know in less than 2 hours. I’d also like to encourage other people out there to look into the ingredients that are in their solution. Most of them contain harmful chemicals like formaldehyde and parabens, both of which are unnecessary in the spray tanning world. If you notice that your solution creates a funny smell afterwards, it’s usually the formaldehyde reacting with your skin.
I refuse to use these products any longer and have actually taken the steps to have my own solution made just for my company and it’s clients. We stand by using all natural ingredients and there is never a smell with ours. Know what is in the solution you are using!!!
